Revolver X4S Replacement Rail Set | Official BAK Industries Parts

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

Our Revolver X4S rail set delivers factory-spec precision for truck owners looking to restore or upgrade their tonneau cover hardware. This complete rail assembly uses the same aerospace-grade aluminum extrusions we install on every new X4S at the factory, machined to exact tolerances for seamless panel operation.

We designed these rails to withstand the cumulative stress of thousands of open-close cycles while maintaining the low-profile clearance that defines the X4S platform. Whether you're replacing damaged rails after an impact or upgrading from worn components, you get the exact same hardware our engineering team validates for corrosion resistance and structural integrity across all fifty states.

Materials & Construction

We extrude every X4S rail from 6063-T6 aluminum, the same aerospace-grade alloy found in aircraft structural components and marine hardware. This temper designation delivers a tensile strength above 25,000 psi while maintaining the ductility needed to absorb impact energy without fracturing — critical when you’re dealing with highway debris or accidental bed strikes.

The anodized finish isn’t cosmetic. We run every rail through a Type II anodizing process that builds a 0.0007″ oxide layer chemically bonded to the base metal. In our 1,000-hour salt spray testing, this finish shows zero pitting or white corrosion, even at scribe marks that deliberately expose raw aluminum. That translates to multi-year performance in coastal humidity, winter road salt, and industrial pollution zones where bare aluminum would degrade within eighteen months.

Compatibility & Fitment

This rail set is engineered exclusively for Revolver X4S tonneau covers manufactured from 2009 forward. The hinge pivot channel geometry changed significantly between the X4 and X4S platforms — using X4-spec rails on an X4S cover will leave a 3mm gap at the hinge line and prevent proper panel engagement.

Our engineering team cut tolerances to 0.005″ on every mounting hole to guarantee alignment with factory bed rail drilling. When you torque the stainless fasteners to our spec of 18 ft-lbs, the rail sits flush against the bed rail top surface with zero rock or flex. We’ve validated fitment on over 240 truck models spanning Ford, Chevy, GMC, Ram, Toyota, and Nissan platforms. The same precision that defines our MX4 rail set and X4ts rail set carries over to every component we manufacture for the Revolver family.

What's Included

You receive a complete left-side and right-side rail assembly, each with integrated hinge pivot channels pre-installed at the factory. The fastener kit contains twelve stainless steel M8 x 1.25 bolts, twelve lock washers, and twelve flat washers — every piece spec’d to match the torque and thread engagement requirements in our installation manual.

We also include a printed torque-spec guide with illustrated bed rail preparation steps. The guide walks you through the precise sequence for removing old rails, cleaning mounting surfaces, and torquing new hardware in the alternating pattern that prevents rail distortion. No aftermarket tools required — the installation uses standard 13mm sockets and a calibrated torque wrench.

Perfect fit after highway impact damage
I caught a ladder section on I-40 that bent my driver-side rail badly enough the cover wouldn't latch. These replacement rails dropped in with zero modification — every hole lined up perfectly. The anodized finish matches my three-year-old passenger rail exactly, so you can't even tell one side is new.

Restored smooth operation after 80k miles
My 2016 rails had developed enough wear in the hinge channels that the cover would bind halfway through the roll cycle. New rails completely eliminated the resistance. I'm impressed these are actual BAK factory parts, not some third-party knockoff with sloppy tolerances.

Installation took 45 minutes solo
I was worried about alignment issues, but the torque-spec guide made it foolproof. Staged torquing in three steps kept everything flat against the bed rail. My cover now rolls smoother than it did when new five years ago.

Solved persistent water intrusion
Water was seeping past my old rails during car washes because road salt had pitted the anodizing. The new rails sealed immediately — not a drop of water in the bed after two heavy rainstorms. Should've replaced these a year ago.

Exact OEM spec, no surprises
These are identical to the rails that came on my truck in 2018. Same aluminum alloy, same finish quality, same fastener kit. I've installed enough aftermarket parts to recognize when something is actually factory-grade versus a cost-reduction clone.

Two-year warranty gave me confidence
I live in New England where road salt is a year-round reality. The two-year warranty on finish integrity tells me BAK stands behind the corrosion resistance claims. After one winter, the rails still look brand new with zero surface degradation.

Good to know

Common Questions About Revolver X4S Rail Replacement

No. The X4S rail geometry changed significantly from the original X4 platform, specifically in the hinge pivot channel depth and mounting hole spacing. Installing X4S rails on an X4 cover will create a 3mm gap at the hinge line and prevent proper panel engagement. You need the legacy Revolver X4 rail set for covers manufactured before the 2013 X4S redesign.

We sell rails individually if you only need to replace one side. However, if your existing rails have been installed for more than three years, we recommend replacing both sides simultaneously. Aluminum anodizing fades at different rates depending on sun exposure, and mixing a new rail with a heavily UV-aged rail often creates a visible color mismatch across the bed.

It depends on your liner type. Drop-in plastic bed liners sit below the bed rail top surface, so rails install directly onto the factory metal bed rails without interference. Spray-in liners add 0.060-0.125 inches of thickness to the bed rail surface, which can prevent proper rail seating. If you have a spray-in liner, you'll need to carefully mask and remove liner material from the bed rail top where the new rails mount.

Inspect the hinge pivot channels for visible wear grooves deeper than 0.020 inches — you can feel these as ridges when running your finger along the channel. Also check for corrosion pitting that penetrates through the anodized layer to expose raw aluminum. If your cover binds during operation or you see visible rail flex when opening panels, replacement is necessary. Surface dirt and minor scuffing can be cleaned, but structural wear and corrosion require new rails.

You need a torque wrench capable of measuring 6-20 ft-lbs in 1 ft-lb increments. Our installation spec calls for final torque of 18 ft-lbs on all M8 mounting bolts. Over-torquing beyond 22 ft-lbs can strip the stainless threads or deform the aluminum rail, while under-torquing below 15 ft-lbs leaves insufficient clamping pressure and allows rail movement under load.

The rails arrive with all mounting holes pre-drilled and positioned to align with your truck's factory bed rail drilling. You do not drill any new holes in your truck bed. The rail simply bolts down using the existing holes where your old rails were mounted. If you're installing on a truck that never had a tonneau cover, you'll need to reference our bed-specific drilling template to create the initial mounting holes.

Our Type II anodizing process creates a chemically bonded oxide layer tested to 1,000 hours of continuous salt spray exposure with zero pitting or white corrosion. In real-world winter driving conditions with regular washing, you can expect five-plus years of finish integrity even in heavy road salt environments. The anodized layer is part of the aluminum itself, not a coating that can peel or flake off like paint.
