Aluminum slat system and canister housing
The Revolver X2 uses individual aluminum slats that interlock as they roll, creating a continuous hard surface across your truck bed. Each slat measures approximately 1.5 inches wide and spans the full width of your bed, supported by twin rails that run along each bed side.
When you unlock the cover, the slats retract into a canister mounted against the bulkhead. This canister holds the entire cover when fully open, which means you get complete bed access without removing any components or storing panels in your garage. The slat design also means the cover conforms slightly to uneven loads; if you’re hauling a toolbox or spare tire that rises above the bed rails, the X2 will drape over it and still lock in place, though we recommend keeping loads below rail height for the tightest weather seal.
Installation process and bed rail fit
The Revolver X2 installs with clamp-on hardware that grips your truck’s bed rails. No drilling is required, and most owners complete installation in under an hour with basic hand tools.
You’ll mount the canister assembly first, positioning it flush against the bulkhead and tightening the clamps to your bed rails. The side rails then attach along each bed edge, and the cover itself threads through the canister and clips into the rail channels. BAK includes plastic shims in the kit to account for variations in bed rail width; if your truck has a spray-in bedliner, you’ll likely use one or two shims per clamp to achieve a snug fit.
Weather sealing and drainage
We seal the Revolver X2 on all four edges using EPDM rubber gaskets that compress against your bed rails and bulkhead. When the cover is locked, these seals create a barrier against rain, snow, and road spray.
Water that does land on the cover surface typically beads and runs off to the sides, following the slight crown built into the slat profile. In heavy rain or when washing your truck, small amounts of water may enter the bed through the gaps between slats — this is normal for roll-up covers and why we recommend treating the X2 as weather-resistant rather than fully waterproof. If you’re carrying electronics, tools, or other moisture-sensitive cargo, store them in a secondary waterproof container inside the bed.

Yes. The X2 is compatible with most spray-in bedliners, and BAK includes plastic shims in the installation kit to account for the added thickness along your bed rails.
During installation, you'll place the clamps over your bed rails as usual, then add shims between the clamp and the rail if there's a gap. Most spray-in liners require one or two shims per clamp location. The goal is a snug fit that compresses the rubber seals without over-tightening the bolts.
You can stop the cover at any point along the bed, but it will only lock when fully closed at the tailgate end. Partial openings are useful if you need to access the front half of your bed quickly — just roll the cover back a few feet, load or unload, then roll it forward again.
When the cover is partially open, the slats rest on whatever cargo is in the bed or on the bed floor itself. There's no locking mechanism in the middle positions, so don't rely on partial openings for security during stops.
The X2 remains functional in cold weather, though extremely cold temperatures can make the cover slightly stiffer to roll. The aluminum slats themselves don't freeze or crack, and the rubber seals are designed to stay flexible down to around negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
If ice forms between the slats or along the rails, you may need to clear it before the cover will retract smoothly. We recommend brushing off snow before it melts and refreezes, and avoiding forcing the cover open if it's frozen to the bed rails. Let your truck warm up or use a plastic scraper to gently break any ice bonds.
The X2 is weather-resistant, not fully waterproof. The rubber seals along all four edges block most rain and snow, but the design of the rolling slats means small gaps exist between each panel. In heavy downpours or when washing your truck, some water may enter the bed through these gaps.

Yes, as long as your hitch mounts in front of the rear axle. When you need to tow, simply roll the cover open past the hitch mounting point, and it will stay retracted in the canister at the cab end.
The X2 does not interfere with hitch operation when open, and you can leave the cover installed year-round without removing it for towing season. If your hitch mounts closer to the tailgate (less common), measure the distance from the bulkhead to the hitch ball to confirm the cover can retract far enough.
