Panel Construction & Weather Seal
Each BAKFlip G2 panel starts with aircraft-grade aluminum skins bonded to a fiber-reinforced polymer core. That sandwich construction keeps the panels rigid without adding bed-wall weight — the entire cover weighs 65-75 pounds depending on bed length, but you’ll handle one panel at a time when opening it.
The seams between panels use interlocking EPDM rubber that compresses when you latch the cover shut. Water that lands on the top surface flows into molded channels along the panel edges, then exits through drain tubes we position at the front corners of the bed. Snow sits on top without collapsing the panels — we’ve tested distributed loads up to 500 pounds, so a roof rack or cargo box bolted through the cover won’t cause trouble.
Installation & Bed Compatibility
The G2 clamps directly onto most factory bed rails without drilling. You’ll slide the side rails into position, align the drain tubes, then tighten eight clamps with the included hex key — plan on 30 minutes for your first install. We include shims for beds that need a leveling adjustment, and the manual lists torque specs if you want a precise fit.
Our rails sit low enough to preserve your sight lines through the rear window. Once installed, the cover clears most fifth-wheel hitches and folding bed extenders when opened — measure your specific hitch height if you’re running a gooseneck setup. The G2 ships in a single box with pre-assembled hinges, so there’s no panel-to-panel hinge work on your end.
Daily Use & Fold Configurations
One-Hand Operation
Open the G2 by releasing the tailgate latch, then pulling the rear panel upward. The hinge system holds each panel at 90 degrees while you fold the next one, so you won’t fight a floppy cover. Fold all three panels against the cab and they lock into place with a Velcro strap — that configuration leaves your entire bed open and lets you drop the tailgate for long cargo.
Partial Access
If you only need the rear third of your bed, unlatch and flip the back panel. The G2’s center hinge supports that single-panel position without propping, which works well for grocery runs or toolbox access. You can also fold two panels and leave the front panel closed when hauling items that need a covered front section.

No drilling required. The G2 clamps onto your factory bed rails using eight adjustable clamps included in the kit. You'll tighten them with a hex key, and the system holds securely without permanent modifications.
Most installations take 30 minutes. If your bed rails aren't perfectly level, use the shims we include to level the cover before final tightening.
You can drive with the rear panel folded up for short distances at moderate speeds, but we don't recommend highway driving in that configuration — wind pressure can stress the hinges over time.
For highway use, either close the cover completely or fold all three panels against the cab and secure them with the included strap. That fully-open position is designed for driving and won't damage the cover.
The G2's interlocking seals and drain channels keep water out of your bed during rain and most car washes. Water that lands on the panels flows into edge channels, then exits through drain tubes at the front corners.
High-pressure touchless washes can occasionally force water past the seals if the nozzle aims directly at a seam. Hand washes and touch-based automatic washes work fine — we've tested both extensively.
The G2 works with most drop-in and spray-in bed liners — the clamps adjust to accommodate liner thickness up to about half an inch.
If you have existing tonneau rails or track systems, you'll need to remove them first. The G2 uses its own side rails that clamp directly to the bed, so other rail systems will interfere with installation and sealing.
The G2 supports up to 500 pounds of distributed weight when fully closed and latched. That capacity covers snow accumulation, roof racks, and cargo systems.
Many customers mount our CS Rack or similar track systems directly to the G2 panels for kayaks, bikes, and cargo boxes. The cover is engineered for that use — just make sure any rack you install distributes load across multiple mounting points rather than concentrating weight in one spot.
The G2 and MX4 share the same aluminum panel construction and tri-fold design. The MX4 adds a matte black powder-coat finish instead of bare aluminum, integrated LED bed lighting, and keyed rotary latches for extra security.

Yes, when the G2 is folded completely open against the cab. The cover stands vertically in that position and clears most factory fifth-wheel hitches.
Measure your specific hitch height to confirm clearance — some aftermarket gooseneck systems sit taller than factory setups and may contact the folded panels. If clearance is tight, you can remove the front panel temporarily by pulling the hinge pins, though that's rarely necessary.
